Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. During the first quarter, KATU supported the educational and informational needs of children through station sponsorships, on-air news local programming features, and fundraisers; with additional resources on katu.com. In January and February, KATU promoted youth education by partnering with a local auto group to sponsor "Cash for Schools", to give local area high schools an opportunity to win money for their schools. In the span of 4 weeks the auto group provided $10,000 dollars each week to winning area high schools, totaling $40,000 dollars. KATU strongly supported the online contest, encouraging viewers to vote for their favorite participating high school with multiple promos and feature stories and mentions in news programming. KATU News showcased the winning school in our morning news, as the check was presented to the school. One school took part of their $10,000 dollar winnings and paid it forward to help a neighboring elementary school purchase much needed band instruments. Another school planned to use the money for a computer lab. KATU continued children's educational and informational programming in January, February and March with our regular morning news series Parent 2 Parent. Viewers send in their questions and KATU news reaches out to experts and resources to answer parenting questions. Parent 2 Parent also featured news stories, such as teen gambling, disciplining kids, and how to talk to kids about a teacher strike threat in their schools. KATU News also regularly featured news stories that covered topics relevant to children and teens, such as the new Common Core educational system, children's chores, and ideas for indoor spring break activities.
