Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | During this quarter, WJAC aired public service announcements that addressed the topics of the use of car seats for children, resources available through Boystown, warning signs for teen suicide, the future for high school drop-outs, bullying, and Big Brother and Big Sister programs. WJAC-TV on-air personalities made several appearances this quarter at sites throughout the viewing area. On April 4th, Chief Meteorologist Jim Burton spoke to a public speaking class at Bishop McCort High School about making presentations. On April 8th, he spoke to another class at the same school on the same subject. On June 6th, Jim gave a presentation on TV weather to children at a special Kids Day program at the Johnstown Area Heritage Association. On April 10th, Jim made a presentation to the Good Futures Career Academy of Ferndale High School on Being Yourself, Being Unique, and Being Positive, and how those attitudes are effective in his job as a TV meteorologist. On April 9th Meteorologist Tony Martin discussed TV Weather forecasting at Forest Hills Elementary School. Also on June 6th, the morning news team of Bill Bown, Lindsay Ward, Kerri Corrado, and Jim Burton visited Westmont Elementary's Second Grade to explain their jobs and answer questions about how they do the news. To help scouts working on their communication badge, Reporter Deven Clarke led Cub Scout Pack 25 on a tour of the DuBois News Bureau and answered questions about his job. State College Reporter Erin Calandra hosted a student job shadon from St. Joseph's Academy on April 21st and a Richland High School student interested in the technical direction of newscasts shadowed Production Director Victor Kovalchik on June 3rd. Account Executive Garrett Bowden spoke to students at Conemaugh Township Middle School on May 2nd about his job selling commercial time. Several groups visited WJAC to watch a live broadcast of the Noon News. They included Hamony Elementary 2nd Graders on May 1st, students from the Future Business leaders of America Club of Salisbury High School on June 2nd, and the DuBois Middle School Audio / Visual Club students on June 5th. |
