Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | BROADCAST EFFORTS Public Service Announcements WKTV broadcasts public service announcements designed to enhance the education of children in the target audience of our network programming. Special emphasis is placed on areas of education, physical and mental health, personal safety, anti-drug information and better decision making. In addition to locally produced and broadcast Public Service Announcements aired by WKTV, the stations efforts are augmented by PSAs produced and presented on the NBC network. NON-BROADCAST EFFORTS Internships and Shadowing The Oneida Herkimer County BOCES operates a program for high school students called New Visions. The program is intended to provide a more intensive opportunity for high school students with special career interests to get first hand experience in their chosen field. WKTV participated in the New Visions program and provided internships for local students. Two high school students participated in the program at WKTV during the third quarter of 2011. The program was on hiatus, due the summer school break, until the second week of September. In August, 2011, the Utica City School District began a search for a new School Superintendent. The UCSD asked for volunteers from the community to serve as committee members to help the district in the search process. WKTV's Program Director, Tom Coyne, who is also the station's Children's Programming Coordinator, volunteered to be a member of the community committee. His tenure on the committee ended when the UCSD Board of Education made their selection of a new Superintendent. |

Each episode is a fact filled expedition to places as diverse as the solar system, the human body, or even inside weather systems. The bus transforms to suit the environment and the kids freely explore and share their learning with each other and with Ms. Frizzle, who nudges her students to make connections and answer their own questions with research. The class pet, Lizzie, a large lizard, accompanies the class on their field trips.
