See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | WBFF continued its commitment to serve the educational and informational needs of children during the Second Quarter, 2012. In addition to airing public service announcements produced by national organizations addressing a variety of issues such as the prevention of childhood obesity, outdoor and environmental education, drop-out prevention, literacy and reading promotion, community service, and childrens mental health; the station produced several broadcast campaigns and public service announcements for local organizations such as the University of Maryland Baltimore City 4H program,Baltimore Area Council Boy Scouts of America, The Believe in Tomorrow Childrens Foundation, and The R Baby Foundation. Local educational and cultural events designed for children and families were promoted on a daily events calendars which aired during children's programming and throughout the broadcast day. WBFF served as the media sponsor of Scouting for Food with Boys Scouts, V=Lincs What I Wish for My Child campaign inviting parents of children with special needs to request adaptive technology devices to help their children gain independence, Childrens Mental Health Matters promoting awareness of the importance of mental health to childrens well being, The Port to Fort 5K to raise awareness and funds for the Believe in Tomorrow Childrens Foundation, and the March of Dimes. During the 2nd quarter, WBFF saluted college bound Baltimore City neighborhood high school seniors as Scholars of the Week. In partnership with the CollegeBound Foundation and Travelers Foundation, graduating seniors were recognized for their academic achievements , leadership, and community service. WBFF continued its long term partnerships with the Maryland Science Center, National Aquarium, and B & O Railroad Museum promoting educational activities at local cultural attractions and promoting family fun as a learning opportunity outside the classroom. Additionally, WBFF hosted three station tours for local Scouts during the 2nd quarter. Station management continued to serve on local boards of directors addressing the needs of children including the Mental Health Association of Maryland and Fit Families Foundation. Station news talent participated in local events including emceeing fundraisers for Boy Scouts, local schools, March of Dimes, as well as participated in local school programs. Station Meteorologist Steve Fertig presented a weekly Wednesday Weather Kid feature in which a local student age 8-15 received a private weather forecasting lesson and then presented his or her forecast on the morning news with the station meteorologist. |
