Every Tuesday our sports-team selects a unique senior who not only holds a B+ (85 or higher) average academically, but also excels in one or more school athletic programs. The recipient is profiled during the sports segment of our six o'clock newscast, September through the first week of June. WHEC-TV also does station tours. Program Coordinator, Karen Calarese, provided a tour for a Webster, NY High School student on Tuesday, 12/29/15. Job descriptions and the daily responsibilities of the various departments were discussed. From, November 30, 2015 through Saturday, 12/5/15, WHEC-TV broadcasted a mini-marathon for the Pirate Toy Fund. Everyday, promotion and newscast time was dedicated to encouraging our viewers to donate a new toy to the Fund for needy children in our community. In addition to the toy donation, a vintage Ford Mustang was given to the Pirate Toy Fund as a raffle item. Folks from all across the country were able to buy tickets on-line. The result, was over 15,000 toys and several hundreds of dollars. WHEC-TV airs a Kids Programming PSA that explains the programming educational/informational symbol; what it means and how parents can use it. An organization that provides services to young people "seeking to deal with, explore, or understand issues of importance to them - from their perspective, and on their terms". It aired, 10/1/15 at 2:23PM and 2:54PM. News10NBC participated in the Ad Council's campaign against Child Abuse. This PSA sends a strong message to parents, guardians and even friends to listen to kids when they come to you and tell you they have been sexually abused. "BELIEVE" them!
