He was released in August 2015 after DNA evidence showed he was not the rapist. Charles McInnis says he made several appeals to different agencies in the past 15 years hoping to have his case reviewed for DNA evidence. The Scotland County District Attorney says the former police chief told her the evidence was destroyed. That current police chief found it after being contacted by the NC Innocence Project. We will interview the current police chief (and attempt to locate the former one) about the DA being told the evidence was destroyed. We will interview the DA who requested the evidence, a representative from the Innocence Project and McInnis himself.
