Jeff George, Meteorologist visited several schools: Southgate Elementary 4th Grade on 4/1, Washington Irving 2nd Grade on 4/3, Adams Elementary 5th Grade on 4/8, Washington Irving Elementary 3rd Grade on 4/10, Cesar Chavez Elementary 1st Grade on 4/15, Sequoyah Elementary 2nd Grade on 4/17, Cross Timbers Elementary 5th Grade on 5/6, 5/8 and 5/13, Prairie Vale Elementary Kindergarten on 5/21. The visits are part of our Future Forecasters program which allows students to learn about meteorology, weather safety and also to teach schools about planning safety for bad weather seasons. On April 25th, Jeff George gave a commencement speech to 300 students at Heritage College. Jeff George is a member of the Statewide Anti-Bullying Collaboration that meets monthly (4/11, 5/6, 6/12) to discuss ways to provide counseling and advocacy services to those victims of bullying. Training and other initiatives are in place to help stop the violence and break the silence. Jeff George spoke at the State Capitol Anti-Bully Rally on May 9th, urging parents, teachers and mentors to participate in the event to raise awareness of the issue and promote the implementation of state policies in all schools. An extensive campaign of public service announcements aired featuring local celebrities. Jeff George is an executive member of IMCI (It's My Community Initiative). Their mission is to develop and expand efforts to strengthen communities by building strong, healthy families. IMCI spearheads projects tackling issues such as health, education and employment. Jeff George gave a severe weather presentation to children at the Bethel Foundation Boys Camp on May 27th. Jeff George gave a station tour to Loveworks Summer Leadership Camp. He explained how we broadcast a program, described how we build weather graphics as well as making the forecast and explained how to handle severe weather situations. All the children received a take home project along with a severe weather safety DVD. On June 16th, he gave the same tour to members of The Children's Center, which just built a new rehabilitation hospital for children. Jeff George emceed the OKC Thunder Cares Dedication Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 30th in Bethel Acres. The Thunder Cares program donated thousands of dollars to help Bethel Acres rebuild the basketball courts that were destroyed by the 2013 tornadoes. The mayor, Neal Davis, gave exclusive interviews to FOX25. John Rossi, GM, attended a committee meeting with MDA for Serving Up The Cures Fundraiser. KOCB aired the following public service announcements geared towards children: Bambi Wildfire Prevention, Childhood Obesity, America for the Arts, Boys Town, FBL Good Manners, Judge Alex Stop Bullying, Sports Safety Emmit Smith, NASA, Veggie Hunter, Childhood Hunger, Exploravision Bill Nye, Project Roadblock, Ad Council Bully Prevention, Adopt a Pet, OK Department of Emergency, Edmond Liberty Fest.
