Non-broadcast Efforts to Enhance Childrens Education: Tools for School, August 1 to August 31, WFMY News 2 conducted its annual Tools for School campaign with collection sites at 26 WalMart stores in our market. More than 30,000 children will benefit from the necessary school supplies to get their school year started off right. Volunteers helped collect the school supplies for distribution in their respective schools. The Good Morning Show and WFMY News 2 provided live coverage during the kick-off and reminded viewers about the campaign throughout its duration. Tools for School Jam: On August 19 WFMY News 2 sponsored a special back-to-school party for children. The event was held at Festival Park in Greensboro. More than 300 children and adults attended. They were entertained by a childrens rock and roll band,and had the opportunity to enjoy activities provided by ArtQuest, Greensboro Ballet, Guilford County Sheriffs Department safety officers, McGruff the Crime fighing dog from the Greensboro Police Department, Piedmont Parents Magazine, City Arts Drama, Greensboro Public Library, and the American Red Cross. 2011 Celebrating Excellence in Education: September 20, WFMY News 2 participated in the annual Celebrating Excellence in Education. Sixteen of the most academically improved schools, the Honor Schools of Excellence, Schools of Distinction and schools that achieved 100 percent graduation ratge, as well as award-winning employees and Teacher and Principal of the Year finalists were recognized and rewarded for outstanding performance. WFMY News 2 anchor Tracey McCain served as emcee for the event. This event was held at Grimsley High School in Guilford County G. Due to CBS changing the childrens programming line-up TROLLZ ended its 11:30-12:00pm run on September 10. BUSYTOWN MYSTERIES-II moved into the 11:30am time period starting on September 17. |
