The show features the ingenious Ms. Frizzle, an elementary school teacher and intrepid explorer who piles her students into her Magic School Bus and takes them on amazing field trips to impossible locations. The goal of each field trip to answer questions or learn many new things about the place the class visits. Each episode is a fact filled expedition to places as diverse as the solar system, the human body, or even inside weather systems. The bus transforms to suit the environment and the kids freely explore and share their learning with each other and with Ms. Frizzle, who nudges her students to "make connections" and answer their own questions with research. The class pet, Lizzie, a large lizard, accompanies the class on their field trips. The content of the show is appropriate for children from ages 4 to 9 and in addition to all the factual content, the children also have a socio-emotional problem to solve that is embedded into the story line. Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. | Pearlie is an animated comedy series based on the children's book series Pearlie the Park Fairy by Wendy Harmer. Pearlie is an optimistic, light-hearted fairy who sees the good in everybody, but often gets into situations because her desire to help is larger than her capacity to deliver. Targeting a 6-10 year old augience, Pearlie focuses on the importance of following the rules, using good judgment and learning how to avoid getting into trouble. Since Pearlie was appointed by Fairy Head Quarters (HQ) to keep Jubilee Park in sparkling order she has constant challenges with her basic goal of keeping everyone happy and making sure the park functions smoothly. Pearlie's nemesis and cousin Saphira, often takes advantage of Pearlie's good nature which requires that Pearlie must also frequently outwit the park bully. In each episode, we see Pearlie approach new tasks and problems with a great deal of enthusiasm, but without the organization required to get the job done. Through plot developments and with the assistance of her friends, Opal and Jasper, she learns what to do and what not to do in each situation so the park can be restored to order. During the quarter Pearlie was pre-empted multiple times because of live network sports events. Every effort was made to reschedule the program on Sundays near Wild About Animals at either 11:30am or 12:30pm. Because of live sporting events two of the quarter episodes were scheduled later and fall into next quarter. Information will be listed on the pre-emption information with dates in the 2nd quarter. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | WBBH promotes positive reinforcement to the young viewing area through the embrace of NBC network campaign, The More You Know, and expanding the national franchise to a local base. The More You Know PSA effort features messages of developing and maintaining self esteem, the importance of education, diversity, anti-prejudice, mentoring, being socially and environmentally responsible, the dangers of smoking, and engaging in internet safety. Positive reinforcement of health related issues such as prevention of childhood obesity, nutrition and physical activity are also a part of our on-going public service commitment. A detailed record of our PSA broadcasts are placed in the public file each quarter. Additionally, station WBBH promotes The More You Know comprehensive website (themoreyouknow.com) which compliments the on-air public service announcements, while providing in-depth referral information for viewers. Content includes: video of all current public service announcements, a general campaign overview, message boards, press releases, kids pages and referral information by topic to partnering agencies referenced in the PSAs. WBBH on air talent and management personnel continue to give their individal support on behalf of the station as special guests, lecturers, hosts, etc to area youth events, organizations and in the classrooms throughout the market. Many serve on committees or boards of organizations that target services to the youngsters in our area. Meterologist Robert Van Winkle continued his classroom visits during 1st quarter 2012 presenting weather facts and information in a fun and informative format targeting primarily elementary aged students. WBBH also offers tours of the station facilities to schools and youth organizations. WBBH also continues its commitment to the young viewers in our area through our long association with The Foundation for the Lee Public Schools. The A Team Challenge is a station developed franchise that has over the last 19 years recognized area high school students by giving public recognition to their individual and representative schools academic achievements. |
