Nick gave a presentation of weather facts, followed by a question and answer session. He also spoke to the students about pursuing a career in the Broadcast Meteorologist field. May 6 Steve LaPointe, Chief Meteorologist-Visited the 3rd grade class at Blue Creek Elementary School in Colonie, NY for a Weather Presentation. Steve gave a presentation of weather facts, followed by a question and answer session. May 21 Nick Johnston, Meteorologist-Visited the 5th grade class at Doane Stewart School in Rensselaer, NY. Public Service Announcements targeting children's needs: The AD Council: Fatherhood Involvement, Recycling, Children's Oral Health, Discovering Nature, GED Achievement, Emergency Preparedness, Food Safety Girl Scouts of America- Best in Me Public Service Campaigns targeting children's needs: Be an Ally Campaign January-March CBS 6 and CW 15 after hearing news reports about the consequences of school bullying, formed a partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Neil & Jane Golub and Price Chopper that resulted in Be an Ally, a media campaign communicating a positive message in response to bullying. Be an Ally includes practical steps designed to empower people to stop the cycle of hate and bullying. The campaign which launched in June 2012 and continues through the second quarter of 2014 features CBS 6 on-air personalities and consists of a mixture of thirty second public service announcements, that air on both CBS 6 and CW 15. Personal Best Jan-March 2014 CBS 6 partnered with Capital Region Orthopedics for the Personal Best Campaign, which highlights that not every young athlete is a most valuable player, but they still give their best effort every time. Viewers nominated young people under the age of 18 who gave their all to an individual or team sport, and the child`s story was aired every Monday on the CBS6 News at 6:30pm to celebrate their Personal Best.
