After due review of internal station records and documentation provided to us by program suppliers, the licensee hereby certifies that the station fully complied with the FCC's commercial limits in children's programs, as specified at 47 C.F.R. Section 73.670, with respect to all programs specifically designed for children ages twelve (12) and under. (Secondary channel 5.2)Due to a network technical difficulty outside the control of the station, the E/I symbol failed to display during all E/I programming between the hours of 9:30am -12:00pm on Saturday, 3/23 and 9:00-10:00am on Sunday, 3/24. The episodes were rescheduled to their second homes during the week of 3/25. (Secondary channel 5.3)Due to an error caused by a bad version of the program that we received from the program distributor, the MeTV Network educational program "Safari," which aired on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 10:30- 11:00am Eastern/Pacific Time (9:30- 10:00am Central/Mountain Time) did not contain an "E/I" logo superimposition throughout the entire program. This program was identified by the Network as an "E/I" program to the suppliers of program guides, and it was also introduced by an announcement stating that the following program is an "E/I" program. In addition, the "E/I" logo did appear as a superimposition over the program for approximately the first five seconds at the start of each program segment. Due to an error, the logo did not continue to be superimposed thereafter. MeTV Network has informed us that this was an inadvertent error and actions have been taken to help ensure the error does not recur. In addition, this same program episode was aired in a rebroadcast on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 11:00- 11:30am Eastern/Pacific Time (10:00- 10:30am Central/Mountain Time) in its established second home. This rebroadcast was publicized by announcements on MeTV Network, and the "E/I" logo was superimposed over the program for the entire program duration in this rebroadcast BROADCAST EFFORTS Masterminds: A half hour program on Sunday afternoons featuring academic competition among virtually every high school in the Rio Grande Valley. Students participating are from the first through fourth year of high school. Competition includes English, Science, Math, Current Events, History, Art and Music. Following completion of each program, KRGV donates a check to each school for library replenishment. Teach the Children: A program sponsored by KRGV where money is raised by businesses and a two hour telethon that is held and aired on KRGV in June to furnish first grade students with clothing and school supplies. The money is distributed throughout the valley schools Sponsorship of the children's television program Sesame Street that airs on the public television station KMBH. Airing of public service announcements geared towards children. PSA's such as Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Teen Stress, Crafts For Kids. Tim's Coats: A program where Channel 5 teams up with the local dry cleaners association to have dropoff locations for gently used coats at our station and the participating dry cleaners. The coats are cleaned and given to the Salvation Army for distribution to the needy people of the community. NON BROADCAST EFFORTS Rio Grande Valley Literacy Center Spelling Bee: KRGV is active in the Literacy Center and several times each year we participate in the spelling bee to help raise funds to help students to learn how to read. This year KRGV's own anchor team won First Place in the spelling bee; helping to raise over $800 Career Days: The department head managers and news reporters, anchors as well as production attend school career fairs to encourage students to keep their grades up and tell about jobs available in the television market.
