Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | Non-broadcast Efforts to Enhance Childrens Education: WFMY-TV partnered with the Guilford Education Alliance to present ON Stage! A county-wide showcase of student performances that highlighted the outstanding talent represented in Guilford County Schools. Over 500 elementary to high school-aged students sang, danced and played a variety of musical instruments. WFMY-TV encouraged the public to attend by airing public service announcements and promotion within newscasts. This event was held to raise additional funds for the arts educations programs within the Guilford County Schools. WFMY-TV news anchors and Good Morning Shows hosts: Frank Mickens, Eric Chilton and Jackie Fernandez emceed the event. WFMY-TV partnered with the Greensboro YMCA for its fifth year of providing free swim lessons to more than 160 children at no cost to their families. The classes were held April 12-16 for first time swimmers. Non-swimmer parents were also invited to participate in the classes. WFMY-TV partnered with the Old North State Council Boy Scouts for the largest community celebration of Scouting in the Piedmont. Boy Scout Connection offered lots of fun activities, crafts, demonstrations and more, for all ages. Hundreds of attendees had the opportunity to visit various troop displays where they could gather more information about Scouting and its programs. |
