During the fourth quarter, WSET-TV addressed the educational and informational needs of children through a variety of programming, outreach activities, and sponsorships of local items and events. WSET-TV provided ongoing support to the Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc., which uses its resources to provide direct assistance to the students and teachers of Lynchburg City Schools. WSET-TV participated in the Classroom Innovation Grant Program that encourages creativity and innovation by teachers and students. WSET-TV continued its participation in and sponsorship of the Lynchburg Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), an educational program that takes students in grades 6-12 through the process of starting and running real businesses over the course of a full academic year. The station's General Manager was instrumental in securing funding for and launching the first YEA! in the state of Virginia. WSET-TV staff members participate in educational and community events and make presentations about their careers year-round. This quarter the Chief Meteorologist participated in the "Read for the Record" event at Otter River Elementary School on 10/21/14 and the Harvest Career Day at Rustburg Elementary School on 10/30/14. He also made presentations about weather at Buckingham Primary School on 11/5/14, at Gretna Middle School on 11/19/14, to Boy Scouts at Liberty University School of Aeronautics on 11/22/14, and at James River Day School on 12/5/14. WSET-TV's Morning Meteorologist participated in Career Day events at Old Forest Road Head Start on 11/12/14, Liberty Christian Academy on 11/19/14, and Boy Scouts of America STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Program on 11/22/14. He also made a weather presentation at James River Day School on 12/17/14. WSET-TV's Web Managing Editor spoke to Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Pack 180 on 10/27/14 and a Reporter/Videographer was a volunteer at the Boy Scouts of America Blue Ridge Council "Spook-o-ree" campout on 10/25/14. WSET-TV hosts visits to our studio by various community and school/college groups on a regular basis to educate students and others about broadcasting, including broadcasting careers. During this quarter, 20 students and 2 teachers from Halifax County Middle School's Future Business Leaders of America Chapter visited WSET-TV on 10/23/14 to tour the station and watch the midday news. Also, 19 students and 1 faculty member from the Convergence Media Class at Lynchburg College visited on 11/20/14 to tour the station and watch the 5:00 p.m. news and 9 scouts and 4 adults from Boy Scouts of America Pack 7, Webelos 2 visited on 12/11/14 to tour the station and watch the 5:00 p.m. news. Additionally, station management served on the board of directors of various non-profits including Children's Miracle Network, Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc., Virginia Amateur Sports, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia.
