The series followsa group of six dogs from Racerville who love to compete with one another in reces. In each story, one of more of the dogs encounter and solve problems that teach them social-emotional lessons on good sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, playing fair, and friendship. The show also imparts information on the mechanics of racing in directionality and concepts of distance and time. The social-emotional m essages are embedded through te stories usng action and humor. The Magic School Bus is based on a series of children's books about science written by Joanna Cole. The show features the ingenious Ms. Frizzle, an elementary school teacher and intrepid explorer who piles her students into her Magic School Bus and takes them on amazing field trips to impossible locations. The goal of each field trip is to answer questions or learn many new things about the plae the class visits. Each episode is a fact filled expedition to places as diverse as the solar system, the human body or even inside weather systems. The bus transforms to suit the enviornment and the kids freely explore and share their learning with each other and with Ms. Frizzle, who nudges her students to "make connections" and answer their own questions with research. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. WHAG, in conjunction with the NBC affiliation, aired a number of PSA's "The More You Know" PSA's. The January total was 110, the February total was 81, and the March total was 85. The :10 and :30 themes of these PSA's deal with the environment, tolerance, mentoring, and violence prevention. The More You Know's website (www.nbc.com/tmyk) features scripts from the award-winning public service announcements referral information for the organizations referenced in the PSA's, a general campaign over view, and educational materials produced in connection with NBC programming. The site also includes a list of the campaigns's most recent accolades. During the quarter, there were 22 news stories appropriate for children that aired on either the 5PM r 6PM newscast. The content of these stories ranged from...A group of middle schoolers in Boyce, Virginia are boasting a new regional Math Award...In West Virginia, children are able to access free full-day kindergarten...Children who spend more time doing moderate to vigorous physical activity reap important health benefits. Kids Cast - every Wednesday during our 5PM newscast weather segment, a third to fifth grade school student gives out weather forecast. Children draw a picture of "Weather" and submit it to out local Kids Cast sponsor. Each week, a picture is chosen, and the child that drew it sits in on our live news set and delivers the local weather. Te child arrives early and in addition to learning about the weather, they get to see how a live newscast works "behind the scenes". During the month of January 61 30-second promos aired for the WHAG Student Athlete of the Month. During the month of February 61 promos aired, and during the month of March 61 promos aired. The community nominates the students. Then each month, a male and female athlete is chosen for their outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the field. A feature story is done on each winner and airs within the local news. Congratulations promos air during the following month. On January 11, Cub Scout Pack 252, Boonesboro tourhed the station. They toured the news room and talked with reporters, toured the studio, control room and weather center. On Jauary 18, Cub Scout Pack 83, Harpers Ferry toured the station. They toured the news room, control room, studio and weather center. They also spoke with a meteorogolst. On January 25, the Director's Club from the Barbara Ingram School coured the station. They toured the news room, studio, control room and weather center. They then watched the "live" noon newscast. On February 1, Tiger Cub pack 30, Shepherdstown toured the station. They toured the news room and talked with reporters, toured the studio, control room and weather center. On February 8, Tiger Cub Pack 17, Williamsport toured the station. They toured the news room and talked with reporters. They toured the studiio, control room and weather center. On February 16, Cub Scout Pack 20, Boonsboro toured the station. They toured the news room, control room, studio and talked with a meteoroglist in the weather center. On February 22, Girl Scout Troop 40795 Smithsburg toured the station. They toured the news room and talked with reporters. They toured the studio, control room and weather center. On February 23, a group from the Country Day School toured the station.
