The station's anchors and reporters make numerous public appearances every month at children's events. An example of these appearances during this past quarter is the 6 Cares High School Football Challenge awards presentation where the winner of a week long food drive benefiting 2nd Harvest Food Bank is announced and recognized. The WATE-TV Meteorology staff is particularly dedicated to speaking to students about weather forecasting and the science and the technology used. The station's three meteorologists visit numerous classrooms, as well as guide tours through the storm center every month. Our news staff also includes many stories geared towards parents and their children in our newscasts. A story about education improvements in 21 local school districts would be an example of one of these stories that aired this quarter. In addition, WATE-TV airs many public services announcements each quarter that are informational for children and parents. For example, public service announcements on behalf of organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girl Scouts of America, and Amachi Knoxville aired during the time covered in this report. |
