Younger school groups are welcomed for station tours and staffers do in-school appearances to read or speak on their jobs. At the middle-school and high school levels, we attend career-choice fairs and encourage job shadows. At the college level, we provide internships in several areas of station operations, for college credit. At all levels we discuss social media and possible negative consequences on school and career plans, of personal picture posting (several staffers are also involved in organizations that encourage healthy life-choices). On-air, we produce 'CNYCentral Athlete' weekly, featuring high school sports stars who are also academic standouts. And, we have begun planning for the 26th year of our summer children's reading partnership with Onondaga County's Public Library system. |
