Age of Target Child Audience 6 years to 10 years
Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. Based on the beloved book series by Laurent de Brunhoff, an orphaned elephant becomes king, and models life lessons such as taking responsibility, being patient and persistent in hard work, respecting peoples' privacy, learning to cope with unforseen changes, and being honest. Specific topics covered in shows this quarter included: new babies may need more time, but parents love all their children; if there's a problem, address it--complaining to others does not solve it and may create more problems; and plan ahead on a big project, to make it successful.

Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. We are committed to age-appropriate interactions that encourage skills to help students get job-ready, including reading, math and understand technology, as well as the academic steps in the career planning process. Younger school groups are welcomed for station tours and staffers do in-school appearances to read or speak on their jobs. At the middle-school and high school levels, we attend career-choice fairs and encourage job shadows. At the college level, we provide internships in several areas of station operations, for college credit. At all levels we discuss social media and possible negative consequences on school and career plans, of personal picture posting (several staffers are also involved in organizations that encourage healthy life-choices). On-air, we produce 'CNYCentral Athlete' weekly, featuring high school sports stars who are also academic standouts. And, we have begun planning for the 26th year of our summer children's reading partnership with Onondaga County's Public Library system.
