The Troop visited the station working on their Weather Merit Badges. February 25 Steve LaPointe, Chief Meteorologist-Visited the 4th grade class at Red Mills Elementary School for a Weather Presentation. Steve gave a presentation of weather facts, followed by a question and answer session. On March 7 Kelly O'Donnell, Sports Anchor- Lead a station tour for Students visiting from the New School of Radio and Television, Broadcast Journalism Class. Kelly encouraged the group to pursue entering the Broadcast Media field by discussing the rewards and challenges of becoming an on-air Reporter/Anchor. March 21 Nick Johnston, Meteorologist- Presenter at Woodlawn Elementary School (Schenectady, NY) Career Day. Nick spoke to students about his education and career path to becoming an on-air meteorologist. On March 25 Steve LaPointe, Chief Meteorologist- Visited the 6th grade class at Elmer Elementary School for a Weather Presentation. Steve gave a presentation of weather facts, followed by a question and answer session. Public Service Announcements targeting children's needs: The AD Council: Children's Oral Health, Discovering Nature, Wildfire Prevention, GED Achievement, Emergency Preparedness Girl Scouts of America- Best in Me Public Service Campaigns targeting children's needs: Be an Ally Campaign January-March CBS 6 and CW 15 after hearing news reports about the consequences of school bullying, formed a partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Neil & Jane Golub and Price Chopper that resulted in Be an Ally, a media campaign communicating a positive message in response to bullying. Be an Ally includes practical steps designed to empower people to stop the cycle of hate and bullying. The campaign which launched in June 2012 and continues through the first quarter of 2014 features CBS 6 on-air personalities and consists of a mixture of thirty second public service announcements, that air on both CBS 6 and CW 15. Personal Best Jan-March 2014 CBS 6 partnered with Capital Region Orthopedics for the Personal Best Campaign, which highlights that not every young athlete is a most valuable player, but they still give their best effort every time. Viewers nominated young people under the age of 18 who gave their all to an individual or team sport, and the child`s story was aired every Monday on the CBS6 News at 6:30pm to celebrate their Personal Best. No Text Zone Campaign Texting While Driving Kills Thousands of People Each Year. Many More are Seriously Injured.
