Every summer, a select group of boys are invited, all expenses paid, to Steve's 150 acre ranch in Dallas and introduced to new opportunities that will reshape their future. The criteria is that these are boys being raised primarily by their moms, a growing trend impacting both families and communities. Steve Harvey along with a group of educators, doctors and sports stars is determined to tackle this issue head on - with tough talk, surprising humor and real commitment. The Special features defining moments for 5 young men as they embarked on a transformative, emotional and unforgettable experience. Steve Harvey's own story, from being homeless to climbing to the highest levels of the entertainment industry, resonates in the lives of each of these young boys. If you think Steve Harvey is only about fun and games, the Special provides a real surprise. For the boys and their moms, the end of the Steve Harvey Mentoring Camp offered a new beginning and a promise of support where they did not expect to find it. The Special shoed them spending a full week immersed in an environment focused on educational tools, life skills and emotional maturity. To date, more than 4,000 children have been placed in permanent adoptive homes through the Wednesday's Child Program. WLKY routinely provides tours for local students and student shadow sessions to point out broadcast opportunities. For the fourth year, WLKY participated with Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary School's "Power Hour" sessions by sending staff to talk about various station job duties, such as photographers, production, reporters and sales and marketing directors. Children Liaison Director, Debbie Roberson, is a member of the Jefferson County Public School Advisory Board and served on the committee that redesigned the Communication, Arts and Media magnet school curriculum for three area high schools. Through this partnership, station staff has visited Ballard High School's communication class, assisting with their media school projects and speaking about the various career opportunities in broadcasting. This is one of the high schools participating in this magnet program. |

The show has been designed to meet needs of children and young adolescents with a unique curiosity about their world. The Program stimulates the 13-16 year olds' curiosity, develops their learning and cognitive, listening and thinking skills, and serves as an enhancement of their academic and educational experience.More than 10,000 schools are using TKN as part of their school curriculum and affiliate stations have already contacted school systems in that regard.
