Beyond broadcast initiatves, the station partnered with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland to promote finanical literacy and business education of young students. WBFF renovated the TV studio in Biz Town, the onsite field experience providing students with an interactive day learning how businesses operate, the careers in business and money management. WBFF served as the media sponsor of JA Jams, the fund raising concert featuring Kenny Loggins. At holiday time, WBFF joined a few good men and women to promote The Marines Reserves Toys for Tots. We partnered with local businsses and cultural institutions to provide discount admission and premiums in exchange for new unwrapped toys. The station staged a Toys for Tots Night at Ring of Honor Wreslting which resulted in 300 new toys and $500 in donations. On December 5th, FOX45 Morning News staged its 6th Annual Toys for Tots Roll Call with 5 hours of live broadcast segments from Harley Davidson of Baltimore which resulted in the collection of 2500 new toys. The station also sponsored the Toys for Tots Benefit Jazz Concert. Continuing another tradition, WBFF served as media sponsor for the B&O Railroad Musueum Winter Wonderland holiday event. It was during 4th Quarter 2014, the WBFF launched its 28th Annual Champions of Courage Black History Month Essay Competition. 3000+ essays were received and in December 20 students video taped their salutes to their Champions who have shared with them the lessons and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In November, WBFF partnered with Regal Cinemas for the premiere of their new theatres at Laurel Town Center. Our Charity Day promotion benefited Fisher House which provides housing for military families as they undergo medical treatment. The event raised $6500 for Fisher House. In addition to the broadcast of programming, the station produced and aired PSAs for local organizations including, Junior Achievement, My Little World Music, Dance and BMore, Boy Scouts, and many small cultural, scholastic and religious organizations hosting programs and events designed for children. A daily childrens community calendar airs in childrens programming. The station also aired PSAs produced by the Ad Countil for such organizations as the US Dept of Education, Health and Human Services, Environment, Forest Service, and Oral Health Initiatives. Station staff conducted station tours for local Scout and school organizations and participated in career days at schools. Our meteorologists continued to present weather lessons in area schools. Station management continued to serve on board of directors for local non-profits serving the needs of children. |
