See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | During the 3rd quarter of 2012, WDEF aired PSA's that were of benefit to children. WDEF sponsored several community events which included the Howard School Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament went to benefit programs at the Howard School, an inner city School. Another event sponsored by WDEF was the Camp Out To Stamp Out Homelessness/Hunger in conjunction with Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga. Those participating spent the night in tents and cardboard boxes to call attention to the crisis of family homelessness and to raise funds for Family Promise, an organization who helps to connect those families in need with area resources to find food/housing both temporary and long term and assist them in finding jobs. WDEF also sponsors Golden Apple Awards program. As students in our area returned to class, they were encouraged to write a paragraph to nominate a teacher who haS had a positive influence on their life and has motivated them to learn. Winners were chosen weekly by a panel of judges and the winning teacher and student that nominated them were featured on Tuesdays 6pm newscast and on the station's website. At the end of the school year, the Golden Apple Banquet is held and the teacher of the year and four finalists are named and receive cash prizes. WDEF sponsors Weather in the Classroom. WDEF Weathercaster Chip Chapman gave a presentation on science, climate and meteorology. He also held age appropriate Q & A session for the group. A few of the presentations included Chattanooga Valley Elementary grades 1-3, Red Bank Elementary grades 3-5 and Nick-A-Jack home school group. |
