Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. Our stations started a community effort we called Project Reconnect, an effort to get students who have dropped out of high school back to pursuing their diploma, GED, career training or military enlistment. Studies show kids who drop out of school are instantly at a higher risk of facing poverty, relying on public assistance, and engaging in crime. Instead of focusing all our attention on the negative consequences we see every day with these at-risk youth, it's important we use our role in the media as more than just purveyors of information, but also as agents of change. Education is power, and we have the opportunity to help these students make a real difference in their lives and in our communities by simply showing we care and providing the pathways to success. This year, approximately 60 students are being targeted. All of them have dropped out within the last three years and have a limited number of credits needed to finish their education. The first 16 students to engage with "Project Reconnect" this year will be eligible for the aforementioned stipends. This month, employees of WCHS went door-to-door along with school representatives and community volunteers to give students the encouragement and motivation to get their lives back on track. We had a significant breaking news story unfold where we broke into programming to inform viewers of a landslide at the airport that affected several families living below the slide and air travel coming in and out of Yeager Airport. We kicked off this year's effort with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help raise money for children stricken with live threatening diseases. Finally starting the first Sunday in Q3, WVAH plans to begin airing a 30 minute public service program discussing a thirty-minute public service program, hosted by Mike Gimbel. Each episode Mike Gimbel and various professional guests discuss the greatest needs, problems and interests in our community.
