They learned about the news operations and cameras. January 22, 2014: On January 22, 2014 KTVO had a group of 25 home school students from the Atlanta, MO\Macon MO area. Students visited the newsroom, control room, and studio in the facility. Employee's helping with the tour were Teresa Carter, Vanessa Alonso, Carl Davis, Chris Blodgett, Matt Dawson, and Dan Magruder. March 19, 2014: On March 19, 2014 Andrew Grove, Assistant News Director, participated in Career Day at Eddyville Blakesburg Freemont High School. He spent four hours talking to students about journalism. March 20, 2014: On Thursday March 20, 2014 John Garlock read stories to about 12 pre-school children at the Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency Day Care in Kirksville, MO. March 25, 2014: On Tuesday March 25, 2014 Chief Meteorologist, Teresa Carter, spoke to Mrs. Mullinix's 7th grade science class at the Kirksville Middle School. She spoke about weather to 15 students. March 25, 2014: On Tuesday March 25, 2014 12 Boy Scouts from Schuyler County, Mo. Troop 180 visited and toured the KTVO Studios in Kirksville on March 25, 2014. The group toured the news room, production control room and the news studio. Dan Magruder and Teresa Carter assisted in the tour. March 27, 2014: On Thursday March 27, 2014 John Garlock went to Bevier High School and spoke to Mr. Robert Fischer's sophomore English class about his job at KTVO. There were about 15 students in the class and he spoke to them for about an hour. March 31, 2014: Dan Magruder gave a tour to 40 second grade students from Kirkville Primary School students of the Kirksville Studio and facilities outside. Invest An Acre- We are currently airing a promotional spot for Missouri Food Bank's Program, Invest An Acre. We produced and aired at no charge. For everyone $1 donated, Monsanto matches the money. The money is spent on ground pork and beef and given to needy families. All donations are kept in the area they come from. This campaign started in November 2013 and continues. Just Drive Campaign: This campaign focuses on safe driving in the heartland. KTVO has partnered with the Northeast Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety and the Iowa Department of Transportation to promote safe driving though public service announcements and on line contest entry when viewers sign a pledge for safe driving. It focuses on cell phone\no texting, speeding, safe driving, awareness of farm machinery and roadway construction and impaired driving. |
