Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | On January 16th and March 20th, KOCB employees prepared and served meals by 6pm to the families at The Ronald McDonald House, which provides free, short term stay for families of sick children who are being treated at area hospitals. Jeff George, meteorologist, helped serve meals to patients and their families at OU Children's Hospital on January 14th. Jeff George and Michelle Apon, meteorologists, visited elementary schools as part of The Future Forecasters program, which allows students to learn about meteorology as they break down extreme weather safety with an interactive presentation. The students become Future Forecaster Certified and are given a certificate and a homework assignment based on the DVD they are provided. Students are then featured on the morning newscast. Mike Brooks, anchor, emceed the Payne County CASA Fundraiser in Stillwater, OK on February 9th. This organization recruits, trains and supervises volunteers for court appointed special advocates for abused and neglected children. Myron Patton, sports anchor, spoke to several journalism classes at Langston University on February 14th. On March 10th, Jeff George organized a Tornado Summit. He programmed NOAA weather radios, did science experiments, toured people through the storm chasing vehicles, handed out free severe weather safety DVDS and explained storm chasing video. On March 13th, KOCB participated in the OAB Education Foundation Student Day Career Fair at Will Rogers Theater. There were 129 students in attendance representing different colleges and universities. On March 15th, Jeff George gave a severe weather presentation to children at the Bethel Foundation Boys Camp, which houses boys from broken homes. KOCB aired public service announcements geared towards children; 4H Science, Bambi Wildire, Shelter Pets, Diabetes Association, Boystown, Earthshare, Recycling, Love is Louder, Judge Alex Stop Bullying, United Way and Veggie Hunter. |
