January 6th through January 8, 2012 - Bald Eagle Days WQAD sponsored this event at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island, IL/ celebrate the return of the Bald Eagle. Watch live birds of pretty, bald eagles, owls and falcons fly over the audience. There were more than 100 display and information booths. Tricia and The Toonies - Tricia and her interactive musical theatre friends entertain all ages with an ecological show the kids will love. Richard English's Wild Cat Show - Mr. English has spent 13 years traveling the country raising and showing his fabulous wild cats. Celebrate the return of the Bald Eagle now off the endangered list. There was a free shuttle bus to the Mississippi River for Eagle spotting locations in the wild at its best... WQAD had a booth at the event; Our on-air talent made appearances during the weekend long event. February 10th through February 12th, 2011 Iowa Illinois Regional Auto Show WQAD took part in sponsoring the 18th Anniversary of the Iowa Illinois Regional Auto Show at the Davenport River Center. The event, which showcases 2012 autos and some 2013 models along with pre-production concept cars, is a joint effort of auto dealers of 18 counties in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Sunday was Family Day at the event - children 12 and under were free. Personal appearance by Spiderman and IronMan. There were professional balloon artists and magicians making animal characters for the kids and they performed magic tricks. Proceeds from the Auto show benefit the Iowa Illinois Regional Auto Show Scholarship Fund's event. A scholarship was awarded at the special presentation to seven college bound students. The Auto Show funds the Scholarship Fund which is administered by the Community Foundation of Great River Bend, Davenport, Iowa. To date over $150,000 has been given - The Auto Show is a non-profit show. March 10,, 2011 Chuck Long Celebrity Sports Auction WQAD News 8's Matt Randazzo was the emcee of this event held at Jumer's Casino and Hotel in Rock Island, Illinois. All proceeds benefit the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities, a pediatric outpatient Rehabilitation center providing speech, physical, occupational and feeding therapy to children with specials needs. There was a live auctions and a silent auction that ran through the evening. Over 300 items were there to bid on. March 17,2012- St. Patrick's Day Parade WQAD participated in the Grand Parade for St. Patrick's Day which starts in Rock Island and crosses the Mississippi River via the Centennial Bridge and marches through downtown Davenport, Iowa ending at 130pm. WQAD was represented by our on-air staff which included Jason Fechner, Rachelle Davis, Matt Hammil, Rebecca Smith, Kim Johnson, Cassie Heiter, James Zahara and Anthony Peoples. This event attracts thousands of people on both sides of the River. Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 Colon Cancer Awareness Chat March was Colon Cancer Awareness Month and gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals from around the Quad Cities joined forces to spread the word about how to prevent colon cancer. Our viewers were invited to log on to wqad.com and chat with professionals from Colon cancer Free QCA and ask questions about colon cancer detection, prevention and more! We had local doctors here at the WQAD studios chatting with our viewers. Dr. Sreenivas Chintalapani of Digestive Disease Center states, "Colon Cancer also does not discriminate, it crosses all social economic lines.
