This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. NBC 3 is committed to age-appropriate experiences and enrichment for Central New York children. This summer, we presented our 29th year of Book Breaks, a summer reading program in Onondaga County libraries. Staffers went to elevenlibraries to read to pre-K and young elementary children, as part of an effort to encourage love of reading and to fight the 'summer slide' of reading inactivity, which would put students behind when they return to school. We also sponsor the Ride for Missing and Exploited Children, encouraging civilian riders to join with law enforcers in a one-day, 100 mile ride with stops at several area schools, to reinforce the message of internet and social media safety, and to help fund the efforts of the Center for Exploited and Missing Children to teach safety and coordinate awareness of missing children. (news stories as well as psa previews) We attended fall college intern fairs at LeMoyne College and Syracuse University, talking to students about work preparedness and work ethics as well as professional preparedness for careers in broadcasting. We also have interns for the fall semester: 9 in the newsroom and sports are from Syracuse University, Onondaga Community College, SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego. In addition, our staffers give of their time as volunteers on community boards that provide education and services to children, including the Museum of science and Technology, the Challenger Field of Dreams, and the Salvation Army/Syracuse area. Staffers also volunteer as youth sports coaches, teach our craft at area community colleges, and are involved in high-profile community events that model fitness (like running and biking) and healthy lifestyles.
