First Quarter 2015 During the first quarter of 2015, KOMO addressed the educational and informational needs of children through a combination of programming and sponsorship events. Bus Stop Benny is displayed. Morning Meteorologist Seth Wayne explains what Bus Stop Benny is wearing to give children a fun and informational image of the weather forcast and how they should dress for the day. Bus Stop Benny has many outfits that change according to the weather (gloves, shorts, etc.) and events (ex. during Seahawks season he wears a Seahawks jersey). KOMO 4 partners with the Seattle mariners each year for FanFest it caters to children and their families. Children can run the bases, meet Mariners players, get pictures with Mariner Moose, ride a zip line, etc. KOMO 4 has a booth at FanFest where children and their families can meet members of the KOMO on-air team. KOMO 4 participated in the Girls Can Do event in Seattle during the quarter, The - their mission of this organization is to encourage young women to "have big dreams and pursue them." Mary Nam was a speaker at the event in February and Janene Drafs was featured in their Public Service Announcement (PSA),aired by KOMOto promote the event. A representative from Girls Can Dowas a featured guest during a 4 o'clock news broadcast. KOMO also participated in a "Teacher of the Week." contest sponsored by radio station STAR 101.5. Representatives from radio and KOMO 4 went to the school to surprise the winning Teacher and present a check ($100 classroom scholarship) and throw a party. Footage of the story was aired during the 4 o'clock news broadcast the Friday after the event. KOMO 4 partnered with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington to promote their cookie sales during the month of March aired on KOMO and ThisTV, and guests from the Girl Scouts were featured on the 4 o'clock newscast during the peak sales time. This year, the Girl Scouts were promoting the 40th "birthday" of the Samoas cookie. KOMO posted pictures of girl scouts and on-air station members wearing Samoas themed garb on Instagram and Facebook. Girl Scouts is a program that builds confidence and builds friendships with young females. The cookie sales are a pivotal time for Girl Scouts - this is the largest girl-led business in the world. Troops raise money to finance program goals and activities, plus teach girls how to be leaders and businesswomen
