This event is a family-friendly outing offering a blend of activities, including music, drama, culture, and unique indoor and outdoor nature activities. United Way fundraising campaign by WKOW (October 4-14) The United Way works to carry out the mission of building a strong community for everyone living in Dane County. WKOW had a two week long fundraising campaign for the United Way and raised thousands of dollars to help families in our community. MDA Fill the Boot sponsored by WKOW (October 27-29). Local Firefighters all over Madison stood on street corners holding their 'fireman boots' asking for donations. They raised thousands of dollars for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. The MDA raises money to help primarily children with one of 40 neurological diseases. Fall Fest sponsored by WKOW (October 28) Fall Fest celebrates the season at an outdoor family festival for one and all! This year's theme, "Creatures of the Night," featured a night full of spooky activities even the youngest tot or tween enjoyed! Flu Reports on 27 News at 5pm (began in October). WKOW features a flu report from expert Christi Archer each week talking about the who, what , where, when and why's of getting a flu shot for adults and children. American Heart Association: Heart Walk sponsored by WKOW (October 8) The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.3 killers, claim more than 865,000 American lives a year. WKOW helped raise over $300,000. Toys for Tots sponsored by WKOW (November -December) Viewers were invited to drop off a new unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots to help over 12,000 children in Dane County. WKOW helped the Marine Corps Reserve and the Salvation Army collect over 45,000 toys and $20,000. Kids Ski FREE at Cascade sponsored by WKOW (December 10-11) WKOW offered FREE lift tickets to all WKOW viewers to be used on our "Ski Free Weekend." Thousands of parents and their children took part in this promotion. Salvation Army Bell Ringers (December 14) WKOW employees were bell ringers for an entire day. Viewers stopped by our location and made donations to the Salvation Army. We raised over $2,000 in one day. Money goes towards helping families in Dane County. American Red Cross Holiday Blood Drive sponsored by WKOW (December 23) WKOW sponsored the holiday blood drive. Blood donation is down during the holidays. Throughout our one day promotion over 600 pints of blood were donated.
