Total times aired
Number of Preemptions 0
Number of Preemptions for other than Breaking News
Number of Preemptions Rescheduled
Length of Program 30 mins
Age of Target Child Audience 6 years to 10 years
Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. Based on Martin Baynton's storybooks, JANE AND THE DRAGON may lack the fantasy violence of other cartoons, but it certainly doesn't lack action. That's because main character Jane (voiced by Tajja Isen) is a spirited young girl who'd rather play with her friends and patrol her kingdom with her dragon (Adrian Truss) than fuss about and learn what's expected of a young woman in medieval times. Jane grows up in the confines of the royal court, where it's her destiny to become a lady-in-waiting. But thanks to a little determination (some might even call it stubbornness), she proves herself and joins the King's Knight Guard. The adventures that follow are full of lessons in bravery, conflict resolution, and patience that build Jane's character and teach her about the realities of growing up.

The class has been on 52 field trips, traveling in a magic bus that can transform its shape and power source, so it can travel through any environment, from the bottom of the ocean to outermost space. Ms. Frizzle can handle it all, from driving the bus, navigating unfamiliar terrain, to guiding the children's learning through inquiry. She is undeterred and rarely discouraged and expects no less from her students. Ms. Frizzle is amazingly understanding and permissive in her approach and the children are ambitiously curious about the world as a result. It's not just the bus that's magic.
