To encourage students to make informed decisions, they must be introduced to career awareness, such as the concept that success in most careers requires education and training. Middle school is an ideal age at which to expose students to the challenging world of work. The station airs two non-core E/I programs on Saturday mornings from 6-7 A.M. No local commercials are placed in any of the syndicated children's programs. Local time is filled with public service announcements targeting the youth, their parents, and care-givers. From a student who scored perfect scores on both the ACT and SAT exams, to 1,000 children attending a Water Festival to learn about water, to a Day of Peace For Students, to 7 Habits of Happy Kids, children were featured and interviewed on these, and several other stories that aired on the station's newscasts during the quarter. Stories on free meals at school, plans for the upcoming school year, orientation, and school safety were also featured for parents and caregivers. During this new school year the station will once again present Golden Apple Awards to deserving teachers who are nominated by their students and others, and will be featured on our newscasts. Several students ages 7-12 auditioned to be a Future Weather Forecaster on September 19th. 11 were chosen, and was given the opportunity to report the weather each Friday on our early morning newscast With Meteorologist Elissia Wilson starting on October 2nd, and ending on December 11th. Each Monday - Friday beginning with the new school year, different elementary school classes in the River Region area were featured giving the Pledge of Allegiance during the station's Early Morning News Program. The station will continue to report on, and highlight the accomplishments of the youth in our viewing area, and to provide the best E/I programming that is available.
