WPVI-TV continues to air short-form public service announcements specifically directed to the needs and concerns of children within children's programming. This quarter approximately 181 public service announcements targeting children age 16 or under aired within the non-core children's programs on our multicast channel D2/D3. These public service announcements contained a wide variety of messages concerning such subjects as health, nutrition, safety, drugs, volunteering and social service, the arts, cultural opportunities, literacy and education. WPVI-TV also aired the following family-oriented programs this quarter featuring subject matter of educational and informational value for children and their families. (1) "Philadelphia: The Great Experiment," a historical documentary project designed to bring Philadelphia's remarkable history to light. This episode entitled "Fever 1793" looked at the outbreak of Yellow Fever that killed one out of every ten people in Philadelphia and led the national government to flee the city forever (aired on our D1 channel 4/4/12: 7:30-8:00 PM). (2) "Gospel Superfest: Spring Jam," a one-hour special featuring top names in mainstream and inspirational music (aired on our D1 channel 4/7/12: 1:00-2:00 PM). (3) "National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade," a two-hour special covering a weeklong celebration of the 100th anniversary of Japan's gift of cherry blossom trees to the United States. The special featured highlights from the week's festivities, including the opening ceremony with President Obama and a parade complete with drum teams and marching bands (aired on our D1 channel 5/5/12: 1:00-3:00 PM). (4) "6abc Presents: The Trail of the Lorax," a behind-the-scenes look at the Philadelphia Zoo's new exhibit, presented by Dr. Seuss Enterprises. This engaging exhibit tells the story of conservation and saving wildlife in an effort to bring attention to the plight of the endangered orangutan (aired on our D1 channel 5/5/12: 7:00-7:30 PM and on our multicast channel D2/D3 5/11/12: 7:30-8:00 AM). (5) "Best of the Class 2012-Presented by Drexel University," WPVI's annual program saluting academic excellence.
