Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | During the third quarter, WWHO addressed the educational and informational needs of children through a variety of programming, outreach activities and sponsorship of local children's events and fundraisers. WWHO sponsored its second year of Thursday Night Lights, the broadcast of local high school football games live on its air. This promotes children's involvement not only in athletics, but also in academics, as student scholar athletes are celebrated during each broadcast. It also gives the highlighted schools and its students a sense of community. WWHO increased its commitment to this project by doubling the number of games broadcast, giving more students and schools an opportunity to participate. Additionally, WWHO supported many activities to get families spending quality time together in their community, including Dive in movies at Zoombezi Bay, the Ohio State Fair and Sundays as Scioto. WWHO also airs a series of PSAs designed to teach children about the world around them, including respecting the environment, the dangers of drugs and the importance of family values. |
