Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | On July 16th and September 18th, KOCB employees prepared and served meals by 6pm to the families at The Ronald McDonald House, which provides free, short term stay for families of sick children who are being treated at area hospitals. This is an ongoing campaign. Jeff George emceed the MDA Celebrity Poker Tournament at Fire Lake Grand Casino in Shawnee on August 6th. This event raised over $20,000.00 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On August 21st, Jeff George and Jon Slater, meteorologists, participated in a meeting at the State Capitol to discuss the May 2013 tornadoes, how we responded, lessons learned, and how to make an even safer Oklahoma in the future. This is the first of several meetings that will take place prior to the next spring storm season. Jon Slater gave a weather presentation and answered questions from the audience at the Martin Nature Park on August 24th. Vicki Khalili attended job fairs at the following locations: Chevy Event Center/OKC on August 30th, and Gallagher Iba Arena/Stillwater on September 19th. She met with potential students/applicants to discuss their career interests and provide information about opportunities at the station. She also informed the students regarding our internship program. KOCB aired the following public service announcements geared towards children; Bambi/Wildire prevention, 4-H Science, Big Brothers, Boystown, Driversedge (anti- cell phones/texting while driving), JDRF, NASA/Generation Y, Toby Keith Ice Cream Festival, Sports Safety/Emmitt Smith, Veggie Hunter, Project Roadblock (anti-drinking and driving). Locally produced vignettes include; Summer Camp, Therapy horses helping children with disabilities, and Class/students turning class projects into solutions for the community. |
