Jeff George is a member of the Statewide Anti-Bullying Collaboration that meets monthly (7/10, 8/7, 9/11) to discuss ways to provide counseling and advocacy services to those victims of bullying. Training and other initiatives are in place to help stop the violence and break the silence. John Wilhelm, Sales Promotion Coordinator, gave two tours of the station. Mike Brooks, anchor talked to them about the news business. July 15: Tommy Franks Leadership Council, July 16: Everlasting Gospel Lighthouse Daycare. Myron Patton, Sports Anchor, spoke to a group of 8 to 12 year olds at the Boys & Girls Club on July 30th. Myron gave them his background and how he started out in television. He opened it up for discussion about how to make good choices and keep on the right track for the future. Single Parents Support Network "Family Network" on August 2nd. (SPSN) is a non-profit organization that works alongside local businesses, organizations, schools and churches to empower single parents to grow successful families and build strong communities. This organization provides the framework for weekly mentoring and support programs for the single parent and their children. Jeff George, meteorologist, set up a weather/science booth, gave away free weather safety DVDs and involved the children with performing science experiments with Derick Brock from Mad Science. Bill Young, news anchor, served as a judge for the Miss Del City (qualifier for Miss Oklahoma) competition on August 8th. On August 10th, Jeff George emceed the Cure Search Fashion Show which benefited children's cancer research in Oklahoma City. Teenagers and children with cancer were the stars of this show, modeling local designer clothing on the catwalk. August 18: OK Bikes 4 Kids Board Meeting: Jeff George is Co-founder and Board Member for this nonprofit whose mission is "to get every boy and girl in-need a bicycle to love and care for. The power of a bicycle has so much more than meets the eye. It reaches the hearts of our children, puts a sweet smile on their face, and changes their lives in so many ways. That's our motivation and our passion...no child will EVER be turned away." Jeff George is an executive member of IMCI (It's My Community Initiative). Their mission is to develop and expand efforts to strengthen communities by building strong, healthy families. IMCI spearheads projects tackling issues such as health, education and employment. Meetings were held on August 26th and September 30th. MDA Lock Up was held on September 4th in an effort to raise funds for MDA. Designated community leaders, and business owners were arrested and had to raise at least $2,000.00 to be released. Jeff George emceed the event and motivated the crowd to help raise the bail. On Friday, September 5th, 7-8pm, FOX Network, along with 31 other broadcast networks, aired the annual fundraiser, Stand Up To Cancer. This live, commercial free special featured hundreds of celebrities giving their time to perform and raise money for the cause. Career Fair on September 10th: Vicki Khalili, Human Resources, and Tom Comerford, LSM, attended a career fair at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. The met with students from the University of Oklahoma to discuss their career interests and provide information about opportunities in the broadcast industry, including interships. Jeff George emceed the OKC Zero K event at Camp Crystal Lake on September 27th. This event is for runners and couch potatoes alike, featuring an optional 5K run and a festival like setting with live music, food and free zone for children. This benefits CityCare which provides food, shelters housing and tutoring for Oklahoma City's less fortunate. The Cure Search Walk for Cancer on September 27th celebrated and honored children across the Oklahoma City area whose lives are affected by cancer.
