The main character, Shelldon, is an orphaned yoka shell mollusk who was adopted by the Clam family and now lives with them in the family-owned Charming Clam Inn. Dr. Shell, an elder and venerated inventor, and Connie, a cowry shell classmate of Shelldon's also live at the inn.
