We also have presented stories in our newscasts highlighting children's issues, including; a state assembly health committee's new bill tightening the state's rules on vaccination exemptions for children. This is an important story for viewers who may have school-age children and are on either side of the vaccination debate; The Fresno Chaffee Zoo's new program, in partnership with Valley Children's Hospital to make the zoo a more accessible experience to children with autism. The program is called George's Pass. The pass will identify children with sensory needs to zoo staff. Families will also be given backpacks with toys and noise canceling headphones. This is an important story for valley viewers, especially families who have children with autism, our state is now updating sex ED guidance for public school teachers. The California Board of Education is encouraging teachers to talk about gender identity with kindergarteners, and give advice to LGBTQ teens on how to navigate relationships and practice safe sex, a topic of concern for our viewers; A story about a local middle school student who is now facing serious charges of threatening to shoot people at the school's graduation ceremony. This is important for people in our area to know that actions have consequences, and not to become complacent to school threats; A story about a local teacher who is facing child abuse charges after reports that she hurt a child at her school. This is an important alert for viewers who may have kids attending local schools; The Fowler Unified School District is now showing off a new set of all-electric school buses. The district plans to replace a total of nine buses with the electric vehicles, which can go up to 125 miles on a single charge. This is important for people in the area so they can see how schools are investing in our environment. The station continues to offer tours of our facility to local schools to show where and how the news is produced, and to answer questions on what skills are needed to work in the industry, including education.
