Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | During the quarter there were 16 news stories appropriate for children that aired on either the 5PM or 6PM newscast. The content of the stories ranged from: ...Dozens of students spent their morning burning calories before enjoying a Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday...These kindergartners aren't in a Spanish class. They are in their normal class, which is run entirely in Spanish...Levi is over a thousand students at Parkland Magnet Middle School for Aerospace Technology. Kids Cast - Every Wednesday during our 5PM newscast weather segment, a third through fifth grade school student gives our weather forecast. Children draw a picture of " weather events" and submits it to our local kids cast sponsors. Each week, a picture is chosen and the child that drew that picture sits on our live news set and delivers the weather for the School Bus forecast. The child arrives early, and in addition to learning about the weather, they get to see how a live newscast works "behind the scenes." During the Month of October there were 61 30-second promos that aired for the Play of the Week. Each week, a different male or female athlete is chosen as our Play of the Week. During the month of November 61 30-second promos were aired. And during the month of December 61 30-second promos aired promoting Play of the Week. On November 28, a group from the Shenandoah Valley Home School Association toured the station. They met with reporters, toured the studio and weather center. Then they watched a live newscast. |
