Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | KING 5.1 KIDS PROGRAMMING NOTE: On Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 3:30 PM, NBC premiered "Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer", a new children's show designed to meet the educational and informational needs of children between the ages of 13 to 16. This live action program takes viewers on an incredible journey to the wildest points on the globe, uncovering the connection between the environment, the wildlife, and the human beings that surround them. CORE KID PROGRAM PREEMPTS, BREAKING NEWS, LATE STARTS AND MAKE-GOODS ON KING 5.1 FIRST QUARTER 2019: Sunday, January 6, 'Consumer 101' and 'Naturally, Danny Seo' were preempted from airing at their normal times (4:00P and 4:30P respectively), due to NBC's coverage of the wildcard playoff NFL game between Philadelphia at Chicago. 'Consumer 101' was made good on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 7:00 PM and 'Naturally, Danny Seo' was made good Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 7:30 PM. The following week, NBC's coverage of the divisional playoff NFL game between Indianapolis at Kansas City on Saturday, January 12 from 1:30 - 5:00 PM, preempted the normal airings of 'Voyager with Josh Garcia' at 3:00P, 'Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer' at 3:30P, 'Teen Kids News' at 4:00P and 'Biz Kids' at 4:30P. All four preempted kids shows from January 12th were made good as follows ('Voyager with Josh Garcia' was made good Saturday, January 12 at 7:00P followed by 'Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer' at 7:30P). The next day, 'Teen Kids News' was made good Sunday, January 13 at 3:00P followed by 'Biz Kids' at 3:30P. Saturday, February 9, 2019, NBC's USA Track and Field Millrose Games program started at 1:30P and aired longer than expected, ending at 3:00:20P, causing 'Voyager with Josh Garcia' to start at 3:01:25P and 'Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer' to start at 3:30:15P. However, there was no loss of show content in 'Voyager' or 'Earth Odyssey' on 2/9/19 due to the deletion of some promos in 'Voyager' and 'Earth Odyssey' to compensate for the NBC Sports Track and Field program end time overage. Saturday, February 9, 2019, 'Teen Kids News' at 4:00P and 'Biz Kids' at 4:30P were preempted due to breaking KING 5 news coverage of the Northwest winter storm that blanketed most areas of Seattle with at least four inches of snow on Saturday, 2/9/19, with more snow in some parts of north and south Seattle. The preempted 'Teen Kids News' and 'Biz Kids' episodes from 2/9/19 were not made good at a later date. Sunday, February 10, 2019, 'Consumer 101' at 4:00P and 'Naturally, Danny Seo' at 4:30 PM were preempted due to breaking KING 5 news coverage of the Northwest winter snow storm. Breaking news coverage on 2/10/19 included weather forecasts, road conditions, and live coverage from multiple locations around the Northwest affected by the snow storm. The preempted 'Consumer 101' and 'Naturally, Danny Seo' episodes from 2/10/19 were not made good at a later date. Saturday, March 16, 2019, 'Voyager with Josh Garcia' and 'Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer' did not air at their normal 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM times, respectively, due to NBC's The Players Championship golf tournament airing from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM that day. Both preempted children's shows were made good the same day. 'Voyager with Josh Garcia' aired at 7:00 PM and 'Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer' aired at 7:30 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2019. NBC Sports golf coverage of the Valspar Championship on Saturday, March 23, 2019 began at Noon and ran slightly over, ending at 2:59:36PM. This caused a minor delay in the start of "Voyager with Josh Garcia" at 3:00:41P, "Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer" at 3:30:26P and "Teen Kids News" at 4:00:26P. All three kid show still aired in their entirety with a local promo dropped in "Voyager" to get back on time. Saturday, March 30, 2019, KING 5.1 aired "Consumer 101" at 10:00 AM as a precaution if NBC's World Golf Classic: Dell Match Play Championship went beyond its scheduled end time of 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 31st. Golf ended on time on Sunday, March 31st, so the same "Consumer 101" episode aired twice on the same weekend: Saturday at 10 AM on 3/30/2019 and Sunday 3/31 at 4:00 PM. On Saturday, March 30, 2019, NBC's World Golf Classic: Dell Match Play Championship started at 11:00 AM and continued beyond its 3:00 PM scheduled finish time. Live NBC golf coverage concluded at 3:14 PM resulting in the 3:00 PM "Voyager with Josh Garcia" being joined-in-progress at 3:15 PM. That substantially preempted "Voyager" episode from 3/30/2019 will air in its entirety on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 7:00 PM. BROADCAST ENHANCEMENT EFFORTS ON KING-DT 5.1. FIRST ALERT SCHOOL NET: More than 100 Washington schools (elementary, junior high and high school) are an important part of KING 5's weather reporting. The weather network consists of computerized weather stations located at schools that calculate wind speed, precipitation, temperature, and other basic weather information. These weather stations are on-line with KING 5's weather system and the National Weather Service, and provide the most accurate and current weather information available in Washington State. First Alert School Net reports are included in each KING 5 newscast. The School Net is of great educational benefit as a hands-on learning opportunity. In the classroom, students use the weathernet stations to learn about weather metrics and incorporate meteorology into their science curriculum. They can bring weather forecasting to their own neighborhoods. |
