During the first quarter of 2017, KBTV FOX4, was an active participant in community outreach through events, public service announcements tours and community outreach initiatives. We aired public service announcements, directed specifically at children, with the objective of helping our community. These spots are normally provided to us through National organizations, but we also sponsor, support local events. We support education and scholarships for local high school students through a program called KFDM Challenge, an academic game show between local high schools. The OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR AWARD, is sponsored by local business, and honors teachers nominated by students and parents on THE MORNING SHOW. News anchor Tiffany Murphy hosted our Reporter for the Day Sofia Babineaux. Together, they produced a newscast about Sofia, her interests and her projects. Sofia was the high bidder in a silent auction benefiting the Garth House, a local charity that works with law enforcement to provide a safe environment to get statements from abused children. KBTV and KFDM participated in a Career Day at Ozen High School. Staff also acted as mentors to train students to interview and other job training. West Orange Stark second graders were the first to tour the new studio at KFDM and KBTV. They learned about different jobs at the television station and how to put together a newscast. In January, KBTV and sister station KFDM hosted a Town Hall Meeting dedicated to improving race relations in our community. We participated in Taste of the Triangle, a family friendly community fund-raiser celebrating the foods of the Golden Triangle, and Mardi Gras. Chief Meteorologist Greg Bostwick was invited to speak to the Ozen High School Environmental Science classes about weather patterns and predictions. News Anchor Tiffany Murphy spent time with 7 year old heart survivor Delilah Rooney. She was the 2017 American Heart Association Honoree at the Southeast Texas Heart Ball. Delilah cut a PSA for us on Heart Health and the importance of attending the fundraiser. As partners of Lamar University, we encourage children to participate in sports and the arts by sponsoring programs at the university. Our Pay It Forward news segment honors local volunteers, including young people, who reach out to help our community. We also participate in the NAB Don't Drink and Drive roadblock, and run these PSAs throughout the holiday, and throughout the year. We were primary sponsors of Adopt a Beach, Gift of Life, Crimestoppers, Baptist Hospital LaSoiree. National PSAs aimed at children include bicycle safety, student aid, leukemia treatments, cell phone safety, anti-drunk driving campaign, children's advocacy spots like Autism Awareness and the National Children's Alliance, as well as the Gary Sinise Foundation, A Wonderful World Value, Shelter Adopt a Pet, Special Athlete Values, Texas 8-1-1, Its the Law, Loyalty, Pass It On, Forgiveness Values, United Way NFL Play, Just Say Hi Values, Stop Texts Wrecks Afterlife, Keep America Beautiful, Stop Texts Stop Wrecks Unlucky, and Discover the Forest.
