Important lessons are shared as the trucks overcome obstacles and work together as a team on tough projects. OCEAN MYSTERIES WITH JEFF CORWIN - Supported by a team of Georgia Aquarium biologists, veterinarians and other experts, Jeff Corwin travels the world to explore the Earth's least understood resource, our oceans and waterways and the animals which call them home. He swims with manta rays pointing out that their body form was the inspiration for the design of the Stealth jet. While in the water with whale sharks he takes samples of their blood to better understand their biology. During this quarter, WJAC aired public service announcements that addressed the topics of buzzed driving, nutrition and exercise, resources for teens, honoring veterans, and the importance of caring for the environment. WJAC on air personalities and staff members made many appearances this quarter at sites throughout the viewing area. We also hosted students at our main studio who are interested in learning about broadcasting. On July 17th, WJAC Meteorologists Mary Ours, Josh Fosbrink, and Tony Martin appeared at the WJAC Day at Idlewild Park to sign autographs and talk to visitors about meteorology and weather forecasting. The weather team also participated in the Human Duck Race fundraiser for the St. Vincent DePaul Society on September 11th. That agency aids financially challenged families. On August 6th, Social Media Reporter Lauren Petrelli greeted viewers at the Flood City Music Festival in Johnstown and introduced performing musical groups. She also staffed a table at the Cambria County Fair on September 7th to speak with viewers about the resources available through the station's social media sites. On September 10th, Lauren conducted the opening and closing ceremonies for the annual Alzheimer's Walk Fundraiser emphasizing the need for prevention of the disease. A Westmont Hilltop High School senior visited the studio on August 30th to job shadow our evening news anchor Jen Johnson and learn about careers in broadcasting. Jen also hosted another seventh grade student on September 9th from the Windber School District who job-shadowed and observed a live news telecast.
