Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | KFRE continued to the serve the educational, informational, and social needs of children throughout the 3rd Quarter 2016 through extensive broadcast and outreach activities. The station has continued to air PSAs for local and national organizations serving the interests of children and families, including The Ad Council's Learning & Attention Issues Campaign, expanding the number of parents who are actively helping and seeking help for their children with learning and attention issues, The Stand Up to Cancer Campaign "Potential," featuring MLB Baseball Players and Child Cancer Survivor, Aidan Smithburger, creates awareness on the progress in Cancer Research in order to save lives, and the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's Campaign giving families hope when their children are receiving medical services at St Jude hospital. We also have presented stories in our newscasts highlighting children's issues, including a report on how to avoid a chronic children's health problem, tooth decay, a report on Merced County School Distric's "Mini-Versity" courses, which focus on a wide variety of subjects including robotics and programming, a report on improved safety at 10 Fresno Unified schools with the addition of neighborhood resource officers, improved learning opportunities in a new middle school opening in Visalia, and warning to parents of a burn risk by recalled Lorex baby monitors. The station continues to provide tours of our facility to local schools to show where and how the news is produced, and to answer questions on what skills are needed to work in the industry, including education. The station's on-air talent maintain an extensive schedule with community groups and schools. Visits were made to schools to read to students, helping them develop a love of reading and continuing education, teaching them about weather and the environment, sports and health, and to answer questions about television, world events, and issues that impact children. Our station is active on social media, where we have fielded questions from children, and take the opportunity to encourage them to continue their education, act in a socially responsible manner, and become good stewards of the planet on which they live. |
