He explained the green screen, the teleprompter and the education needed for a job in television. 4/11: Pete Petoniak, meteorologist gave a school talk at Meadowbrook Elementary. He spoke to 125 third graders about weather, staying safe when it's severe and how to become a meteorologist. He also conducted experiments to explain some weather concepts. 4/17: Michelle Melby and Mike Murad hosted the 26th Annual Golden Apple Awards. This is from Partners in Education, a program of the Greater Green Bay Chamber. More than 400 people were in attendance. It celebrates excellence in education by awarding seven teachers and one team with a Golden Apple Award. The one hour program was broadcast on FOX 11 that week. 4/24: Rachel Manek, Emily Deem and Gabrielle Mays took part in the Media Day for Women Build, a program of Habitat for Humanity. They helped frame a house on the north side of Green Bay. 4/25: Rachel Manek, Pete Petoniak and Emily Deem were the emcees for Future 15. This is an awards ceremony from Current, a program of the Greater Green Bay Chamber. Fifteen young professionals were celebrated that night. 4/27: Michelle Melby was the emcee at the Walk for Autism in Kimberly; 300 people participated. 5/3: Donna Fischer gave a tour to eighteen 10-year-old Girl Scouts. The girls heard details about working in television directly from employees in News and Engineering. 5/9: Pete Petoniak and Rachel Manek hosted Runway for Life, to benefit families of children with cancer. About 500 people were in attendance. 5/9: Pete Petoniak gave a station tour to fifteen meteorology students from Hortonville High School. 5/14: Pete Petoniak, Patrick Powell, Justin Steinbrinck and Phil DeCastro gave a weather presentation to middle school students at Weather Day at Timber Rattlers event in Appleton. 5/22: All FOX 11 meteorologists and anchors met with high school students at the Best of the Class program at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. 400 high school valedictorians were in attendance. 6/14: Donna Fischer gave a tour to fifteen international students attending St. Norbert College in De Pere. The students are in the area to improve their English speaking skills and take in the local culture.
