Each program was supported by a team composed of the creative personnel (producers and writers), an educational consultant, and several technical consultants verified all the factual content or tested that competitive challenges that were presented in each program. The educational consultant worked with the creative team to convey content at a level of comprehension for the target audience and to develop age-appropriate themes for learning within each episode of every program. All of the educational content was integrated into the action and movement of each episode so that the entertainment and education would be interdependent and present throughout the program. (It was necessary to reschedule certain shows this quarter due to conflicts with live network sports. In each instance of rescheduling, prior notice was given to viewers both over-the-air and through local listings services.) On February 4, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres spoke to Tatum ES Elementary students in rural southeast New Mexico about weather and how it can impact how we dress and prepare for the day. On February 7, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres judged several science fair projects and talked to the students from Longfellow. Jorge helped the students become better at public speaking and being confident in their presentations. On February 8, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres spoke to kindergartners at Bel-Air about how he became a meteorologist along with how to stay safe during dangerous weather; showing students that reading, writing and public speaking are important when it comes to bettering themselves and to exceed in their education. On February 11, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres spoke to kindergartners at San Juan ES about weather by showing them images of weather phenomena along with weather safety. On February 21, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres spoke to 6th graders at Mesa View ES in Grants, NM, about weather by teaching them how weather works via science experiments. On February 25, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres spoke to 3rd through 5th graders of Jal Elementary School about weather, our TV station, what it takes to be a meteorologist and fun weather information. On March 7, 2019, KOB executive producers Deana Day and Brian Fetting along with News Director Tim Maestas were joined by high school freshman Angelina Anastasio as a part of a school project on her career choice. She wanted to learn more about local TV news and the responsibilities of executive producers. On March 11, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres talked to 2nd graders at Country Club ES in Farmington, NM, about weather, education, weather safety, and answer their weather-related questions. On March 23, 2019, Anchor Steve Soliz helped raised money for El Ranchito de Los Ninos. This annual gala for the state's only foster home that does not accept money from the state. This allows the organization to keep families together under the same roof. On March 29, 2019, Meteorologist Jorge Torres moderated the New Mexico Geography Bee, which consisted of reading state, country and world geographic questions. 50 New Mexico students participated. |
