Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | WBFF continued to serve the educational and informational needs of children through broadcast and outreach efforts during the 1Q 2019.The station continues to reach out and work with non-profits and governmental agencies serving the needs of children by providing resources, promotion, and opportunity to share their mission and programs during news and community affairs programming . WBFF broadcast its 32nd annual Champions of Courage Essay Competition from mid-January through early March. Nearly 3000 essays from middle and high school students across Maryland were received. Students saluted their personal role models who have shared with them the lessons and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 20 essays were selected and the students were honored at an awards breakfast where they received a one hundred dollar award and the top three essayists received additional scholarship awards and cash prizes for their schools sharing the message that when an individual achieves, his community benefits. Additionally, four community champions were featured in special news reports airing on Saturdays during February. Honorees were saluted for their work promoting childrens health, nutrition, engagement with the arts and community. In January, the station served as the media sponsor of Baltimores Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Parade. WBFF presented its 10th annual BMore Health Expo on March 16 at the Baltimore Convention Center and showcased activities and resources promoting childrens health, fitness, screenings, and nutrition. The expo was attended by 30,000. During the 1st quarter, the station partnered with the Baltimore Chick-fil-A restaurants, to present the CFA Kids Correspondents . 12 children and teens experienced behind-the-scenes tour of the station, learned about careers in broadcast TV, and how reports and spots are produced for broadcast. The children presented reports about Maryland attractions, history and traditions with the viewing audience throughout 2019. The FOX45 Morning News provided on-the-set learning opportunities for youth ages 8 - 15 to be a Weather Kid. Teachers nominated students and selected students received a weather lesson from the morning meteorologist and then helped present the forecast live during the morning news. The feature airs every Wednesday during the school year. The station hosted tours for local schools and Scout troops, participated in career days, presented weather lessons in local elementary schools, served on board of local non-profits serving the need of children , and served on committees for Baltimore Area Council Boy Scouts of America. The station continues to air public service announcements designed for childrens educational and information needs and broadcast of a community calendar designed for children and their families. |
