Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | In 2018, as part of a year-long multi-platform commitment to tackle the Addiction Epidemic in our community, WLWT has produced daily news stories focusing on this topic and in particular the faces of those impacted in our communities, primarily children. WLWT also has a dedicated link on the WLWT.com homepage, State of Addiction, with local and national content providing updates and information for viewers. In the fourth quarter of 2018, WLWT participated in its 17th Annual Coat Drive, a partnership with local non-profit charity St. Vincent DePaul. The drive collected over 2850 coats that were in turn distributed to children and families in the local community. On October 27, 2018 core programs Vets Saving Pets and Consumer 101 were pre-empted at 11:30pm and 12:00pm to air breaking news coverage regarding the shooting that killed several people and wounded others that occurred at The Tree of Life Congregation, a Pittsburgh synagogue. The late breaking nature of this event and fluidity of the situation were beyond the control of the station and made it impracticable for the station to reschedule Vets Saving Pets and Consumer 101. On December 1, 2018, core program Vets Saving Pets was preempted for ten minutes (from11:40-11:50am) to air breaking news coverage of President Trump offering his condolences and sympathy regarding the death of President George H.W. Bush. One or more episodes of children's programming that were preempted during the quarter were not rescheduled. The Digital Core Programming Summary section of this report would not permit the station to include preemption reports for such un-rescheduled preemptions, and FCC Staff has advised that no preemption report for such unrescheduled episodes is necessary. |
