United Way fundraising campaign by WKOW (October-November) The Unite Way works to carry out a mission of building a strong community for everyone living in Dane County. WKOW fundraises through station events for the United Way and raised thousands of dollars to help families in our community. Aldo Leopold Nature Center: Pipers in the Prairie sponsored by WKOW (October 8th) Pipers in the Prairie is fundraising gala with bonfires, music and wonderful food. All proceeds benefit childrens programming at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. WAGS Fall fundraiser sponsored by WKOW ( October 24) An evening of fun, food, and entertainment celebrating the WAGS program and the service dogs they provide to children and adults of all ages. Fall Fest sponsored by WKOW (October 28) Fall Fest celebrates the season at an outdoor family festival at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. This years festival featured a night full of spooky activities for children of all ages. November Tots for Tots sponsored by WKOW (November - December) WKOW viewers drop off new toys to Toys for Tots to help over 12,000 children in Dane County. WKOW helped the Marine Corps Reserve and Salvation Army collect over 60,000 toys and thousands of dollars. Salvation Army Gala sponsored by WKOW (November 1) This event helps the Salvation Army raise money to help feed, clothe, comfort and care for their clients. Their mission includes food distribution, disaster relief, anti-human trafficking and a wealth of childrens programs. March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction (November 9) Enjoy delightful food while helping to improve the health of babies, by preventing birh defects, premature birth and infant mortality. United Way Community Celebration sponsored by WKOW (November 15) This celebration acknowledges all the good everyone has done in the community and highlights how much money was raised throughout the year, that goes to hundreds of community organizations for adults and children. Miss Remarkable Pageant sponsored by WKOW (November 17) Miss Remarkable is a pageant for women with disabilities age 13 and older. The pageant provides a platform for these women to build confidence and self-esteem through educational workshops, one-on-one interviews, and ends with an on-stage pageant. December Salvation Army Bell Ringers (December 11) WKOW employees were bell ringers for an entire day. Viewers stop by and make donations to the Salvation Army. Bell ringers helped raise over $1000 dollars in one day, money goes towards helping families in Dane County. Kids Ski Free at Cascade sponsored by WKOW (December 15-16) WKOW offered free lift tickets to all WKOW viewers for a Ski Free Weekend. Thousands of parents and children took part in this promotion. American Red Cross Holiday Blood Drive (December 24) WKOW sponsored the holiday blood drive, when blood donations are usually down. During the one-day event over 900 pints of blood were donated.
