During Q4 2018, WJAR participated in the following... airing over 900 public service announcements that include but not limited to dental hygiene, animal conservation, forest conservation, etc.; news talent visiting local schools and classrooms while other children's groups visited the station for tours; in partnership with Hasbro Industry & RI Department of Education, the Golden Apple Award recognizing teachers who go above and beyond in the classroom; and Health Check Kids reports that focus on children-themed health topics. For the Golden Apple promotion, station continued with its on-air campaign for solicitation of teacher submissions through the quarter. Each honored teacher is chosen by a panel based on letters submitted by students and/or parents. One teacher is honored per week throughout the school year... a profile airing in NBC 10 News at 6PM on Thursdays and repeated on NBC 10 News Sunrise on Fridays. For Health Check Kids, the station aired weekly segments in NBC10 News at 5:30PM. Each segment focused on health issues and matters relating to children.
