During the second quarter, WSET-TV addressed the educational and informational needs of children through a variety of programming, outreach activities, and sponsorships of local items and events. WSET-TV provided ongoing support to the Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc., which uses its resources to provide direct assistance to the students and teachers of Lynchburg City Schools. WSET-TV made a contribution that has been allocated to an "ABC 13 WSET-TV Classroom Innovation Grant." WSET-TV hosts visits to our studio by various community and school/college groups on a regular basis to educate students and others about broadcasting, including broadcasting careers. A group of Meteorology students from Lynchburg College toured the Weather Station and spoke with Meteorologist Matt Ferguson on 4/10/18. Mr. Ferguson also teaches the Meteorology class at Lynchburg College. On 5/9/18, a group of twenty students from Holy Cross Regional School in Lynchburg toured the WSET-TV Weather Station, met Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger, and were allowed to ask questions about meteorology and weather. During this quarter, WSET-TV had three college interns in the News department. Additionally, station management served on the board of directors of various non-profits including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia, Fork Union Military Academy, Horizon Behavioral Health, HumanKind, Blue Ridge Lacrosse Club, and the Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc. during the quarter.
