Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. As a part of our service to the community in first quarter, 2018, KFDM-TV reserves a certain number of commercial availabilities for public service announcements. These spots are normally provided to us through National organizations, but we also sponsor and support local events, on-air, and through community outreach and partnerships. The OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR AWARD and FOCUS ON EDUCATION are two news franchises that can be found on THE MORNING SHOW. The franchises are sponsored by local business, and honors teachers nominated by students and parents. More than one thousand children, adults, educators, and community leaders, including KFDM Investigative Reporter Angel San Juan, attended the 37th annual MLK Jr. brunch in Port Arthur, Texas. Lumberton Girl Scouts checked out behind the scenes, watched a newscast and participated in a Q and A session with broadcast news professionals, during a tour of the KFDM Studios. KFDM News anchor Tiffany Murphy helped raise nearly 100,000 for the Beaumont Junior League. Monies raised will help support a variety of projects, including teaching children to successfully start their own business and providing relief to children and families devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The KFDM staff hosted 10 year old Isaac Nichols, recipient of our Reporter for A Day prize package. Isaac worked with Managing Editor Tom Wright and Creative Services Director Gina Hinson, to produce a news segment featuring Isaacs interests and projects. Together they selected and wrote stories, taped Isaac on the set, and introd a story about toys on our magazine style program, Southeast Texas Live. Isaacs parents were the high bidder in a silent auction benefiting the Garth House, a local charity that works with law enforcement to provide a safe environment to get police statements from abused children. KFDM Local Sales Manager Susie Fontenot and Creative Services Director Gina Hinson participated in Mock Job Interview Day with Ozen High School juniors and seniors. Staff acted as mentors to train students how to interview for a job, and maintain composure under duress. KFDM News Anchor Tiffany Murphy shot a public service announcement with 5 year old heart surgery surivivor Eloise, the honoree at the 2018 American Heart Association Heart Ball. Tiffany also hosted the Rubber Ducky Derby, benefiting the children of The Shorkey Center in Beaumont, Texas. Loosely based on the Kentucky Derby, money raised benefits developmentally disabled children in Southeast Texas. In February, KFDM-FOX4 hosted a Town Hall Meeting designed to call attention to the slow pace of recovery in our area from Tropical Storm Harvey. Thousands of Southeast Texas children and families were affected by the catastrophic storm, forcing families to relocate and rebuild. KFDM in Beaumont participated in the annual Youth Solutions Southeast Texas Job Fair. Representatives from the station, including Meteorologist Dana Melancon and Producer and Director Darryl Corley showcased newsroom careers and opportunities. High School seniors from across our area learned how to prepare for different jobs available in broadcast TV. KFDM participated in Taste of the Triangle, a family friendly community fund-raiser celebrating the foods of the Golden Triangle, and Mardi Gras. Our Pay It Forward news segment honors local volunteers, including young people, who reach out to help our community.
