KATU News covered stories abut the signs and symptoms of teens and pot use, child advocates calling on Facebook to pull its messaging app for younger children, teens and sleep deprivation, a math and reading training program studying kid's brain activity, Portland Public Schools starting an Arabic dual language immersion program, screening kids 12 and older for depression, Intel teaching fourth graders by bringing an experiment into the classroom, a 13-year old boy who invented a new hand for his dad who was wounded in Iraq, risks of childhood dieting, and local students going to Washington D.C. to advocate for kids. Other topics covered in local news during the quarter were a sister singing group promoting music in Elementary schools, driving safety with kids, encouraging kids to love reading, and teaching kids to relate and communicate with kids who are different. KATU also conducted 4 group tours of its station during this quarter with children from area schools.
