During this quarter KATU supported the educational and informational needs of children with on-air news and local programming along with participating in a School Supplies Drive for Friends of the Children in August. The station supported the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation OneWalk in September. KATU news covered stories about Rootopia which brings farm to family ideas for viewers to grow, cook and eat together with their kids. The station produced two weeks of special Back to School stories covering school dress codes, earthquake preparedness, shopping for supplies and clothing , homeless students and packing nutritional lunches. KATU News aired in their Kids Doing Good Stuff segment kids from small Oregon towns helping Harvey victims with fund-raisers and helping homeless children get the clothes and supplies they needed for school, sending feminine hygiene kits to empower girls in third world countries and care packages sent to U.S. military overseas. The station also conducted 2 group tours during the quarter with children in ages ranging from 6 to 18 from the local communities.
